Workflow (one-way)
Sterile processing definition
Sterile processing uses a one-way workflow that moves items from dirty to clean: decontamination, then preparation and packaging, then sterilization, then sterile storage, then distribution. Items and staff should never move backward from a dirty area into a clean one without the right precautions, which prevents cross-contamination.
