Point-of-use treatment

Sterile processing definition

Point-of-use treatment is the first step of instrument processing, done right after a procedure where the instruments were used. It means wiping off gross soil and keeping instruments moist, for example with an enzymatic foam or spray or a water-moistened towel, so blood and tissue do not dry on them before they reach decontamination. Saline should not be used because it can damage instruments.
