Leak test (endoscopes)

Sterile processing definition

A leak test checks a flexible endoscope for holes or damage in its outer covering or internal channels before it is immersed in cleaning solution. A leaking scope can let fluid inside and be seriously damaged, and it cannot be reliably cleaned. The test is done as directed by the manufacturer's IFU, and any scope that fails is removed from service for repair.
