Implant
Sterile processing definition
An implant is a device placed in a surgically or naturally formed body cavity and left there, such as an orthopedic screw or plate. Because implants stay in the body, steam loads containing them should be monitored with a biological indicator in a process challenge device and quarantined until the BI result is known, except in documented emergencies.
On the CRCST exam
Expect a question on when an implant can be released: after the BI result is negative.
