Box lock
Sterile processing definition
A box lock is the hinge joint where the two halves of a hinged instrument, such as a clamp or needle holder, cross and pivot. Box locks trap debris easily, so they must be opened during cleaning and inspected under lighted magnification. Cracks in the box lock mean the instrument must be removed from service.
